Ending of Eclipse

Author’s Note: After reading the first few chapters of the novel, Jekyll and Hyde, I was asked to reflect on it and what I found jumping out at me was the duality between Jekyll and Hyde, Light and Dark. The words in different fonts are too emphasize how these two are so different.

The Sun
Shining heavenly warmth overhead
Guiding toward integrity has just begun
As the sight of an unknown predator, it dreads

The Moon
Darkness seeping over every corner
Nothing stopping the monstrous goon
Blocking the righteousness, a complete foreigner

Henry Jekyll
Glowing with encouragement
Nothing raining on him, not even a speckle
Except for the elixir that made a replacement

Edward Hyde
A disastrous fiend
Cloaking away the bright Henry hiding inside
Drunk from the darkness that intervened

Dark and Light
Flickering back and forth
Radiance coming to an end very slight
As the light dies,
There is not telling what will come of dark henceforth

  1. Courtney, I loved how you used a poem to emphasize the drastic differences between the two. It was such a unique way to respond to these past few chapters. I loved how you had different sections and how you really made sure that the reader could really tell the complete opposites of the two. This style of writing is really working for you, keep it up!

  2. Wow, yeah, I really like how you changed the fonts to elicit your meaning more clearly. How you demonstrate the relationship between the two polar opposites, or as you describe it, the eclipses. Describing the complete opposites shown often in the story is hard to write about without blatantly saying it, but instead, you crafted the poem to show, not tell the point you were trying to get across.

  3. Courtney, I love this! This style of writing really suits you! I love how opposite you made the two sides feel. Although I feel like there could have been a little more description for each one to create a greater effect, but overall great job!
